An idea comes from Jeff Leon in Mont. Co. Maybe it’s from hailstorms. The tips may have been damaged by hail that fell in early summer and damaged the growing tip to produce the double spikes.

  2. What an odd phenomenon! Does this aberration happen only to narrow-leaved cattails, or to our common ones as well? Do you have any idea what may cause it?
